BARAKA x JS for Moon Beauty featured in BARAKA Bi-monthly Digital Magazine

Here's a first look at the special column written about how to maximize our beauty routines with the moon's cycle.  Written by internationally renowned and distinguished astrologist, Stella Kaoruko, regarding the powers and effects of each month's New and Full Moons.  Available exclusively to BARAKA members.  My "the stars" and the new "the moons" series are used in this digital magazine, which am so humbled to be a part of.

BARAKA x JS - Upcoming

BARAKA x JS for BARAKA Bi-monthly Digital Magazine

This is very exciting upcoming project.  It's humbling to have the amazing opportunity to collaborate with BARAKA, a cosmetics life-style brand that was inspired by the Beauty of the Queens. The brand does not only focus of "outer beauty" but the entire well-being of its clientele.  The ingredients used in its products such as lotus, frankincense, and Dead Sea salts were and still are prized for their effectiveness in nourishing the skin and soul.

Another interesting aspect of the BARAKA is its incorporation of what is called the "Moon Beauty Method".  The Moon, it has amazing power that is beyond human grasp. We don't usually think about New Moons and Full Moons, but these events can actually bring along dramatic changes to our lives and can effect our outlook, feelings, and body conditions, of course am talking from more of a spiritual healing stand point.  The "Moon Beauty Method" involves making the moon cycle a part of our regular beauty routine.

To help us understand this better BARAKA will start its Bi-monthly Digital Magazine soon with special messages written by internationally renowned and distinguished astrologist, Stella Kaoruko, regarding the powers and effects of each month's New and Full Moons, available exclusively to its members.  My "the stars" and the new "the moons" series will be featured in this digital magazine.  The only thing is that it is available on in Japanese at the moment, but plans are underway for availability in other languages.

It is always an honour and my great luck to work with people and brands I love and believe in.  I actually posted about BARAKA before being involved in this project, so please to take a look at the post if you haven't already:

bubbles at Tokyo Midtown

Started painting my bubbles only cause someone I know asked me about a possible collaboration, but when things didn't work out, I continued to paint them anyways, since painting made me happy. I even painted them when I had other deadlines to meet--am an idiot!

And where did my bubbles go? Who would have thought that in less than a year's time, they would end up at one of my favourite spots, Tokyo Midtown of all places!! And as their 40 m long spring campaign window display!!

From my humble A3 painting to an amazing 40 m!! I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this massive project, cause it is crazy as it is amazing!! Am so, so grateful!! From now until Thu Apr 21--please go see it if you have the time at the B1 floor area that connects Odeo & Hibya lines to Tokyo Midtown.

Regarding the work-in-progress pictures, the A3 painting itself was a challenge for much because I usually painting this series on paper 1/4 of that size. The original painting that was used for the proposal is on the right hand side corner of the last picture. Just painting on the A3 size paper took me hours, close to 20 of just bubbles. Think have became a bubble myself!!  Hahaha......

Was very fortunate to have worked with Ms. Seiko Tsuchimoto on creating a couple of small message cards for customers ordering her wonderfully handmade baby diaper cakes--decorative display cakes made from real diapers that are usually given to expecting mothers or new mothers as gifts.

Ms. Tsuchimoto was the first to bring baby diaper cakes to Japan, and even heads the Baby Diaper Cake Association of Japan.  Often featured in magazines and on TV, she is well recognized for her work and is as gentle and sweet as her creations.  Working with her on the project was an absolute pleasure for me!

I look forward to our future projects together.  Please see below for some examples of her work, and do visit her company's website--they ship internationally too!!

Lily of the Valley - Anshindo x JS Christmas 2014 Campaign

December 9, 2014 Jodi Sam
lilyofthevalley_anshindo_jodisam.jpeg

Lily of the Valley.  A beautiful fragrant flower that is cute, elegant, and means "sweetness," "return to happiness," and "you've made my life complete". This is my lily of the valley, painted especially for Anshindo x js Christmas 2014 campaign.  To be more specific, it was for the message card that couples receive in additional to the original framed print.

We couldn't think of a more suitable flower to represent our congratulatory feelings towards the receivers of this gift for their new chapter in life together!

Soapbox Press x JS - Thank You

March 7, 2014 Jodi Sam
soapboxpress_jodisam.png

I have to apologize for the delay in doing a proper post about the wonderful Soapbox Press, and the feature they did on me back in February.  Though I tweeted and shared the news on Facebook, I still wanted do note in here on my blog.

On the last day of 2013, I received a kind email from Nicola of Soapbox Press--a great platform for discovering different creative talents/work.  Based in UK, they reached out to people all around the world.  After several correspondences with Nicola, My Little Book of Happiness was officially a part of the Soapbox Press Visualisation section, and proudly so.  Please see below for the direct link to the feature, and do explore their site!  It's amazing!!

Thanks again to the sweet ladies at Soapbox Press!

Poetry & Paint Anthology - Lost

November 3, 2013 Jodi Sam
poetry & paint anthology lost - jodi sam.jpg
poetry & paint anthology lost jodi sam cover page.jpg

I often get lost, not only physically (just ask any of my poor friends waiting for me!) but also in my thoughts.  I don't necessarily find it to be a bad thing, especially when I can make new discoveries, be it a small cozy cafe, a beautiful stationery store, or about myself.

A couple of months ago, I received an email from Carmina, a lovely writer in London who puts together an anthology of poems and illustrations.  Her next anthology was to be around the theme "Lost".  What a great subject I thought.  So, am happy to be a part of her wonderful anthology, which features both my poem and illustration, and would like to share it here with everyone.  I hope you will like it!

There are also other enthusiastic artists who contributed to this collection.  Please do visit the following links for more information:
